A nonprofit that offers digital skills classes and laptop computers to Arlington seniors. Collaborates with the County's 55+ Program within the Department of Parks and Recreation in addition to area nonprofit housing providers.

Community Tech Support

Description

Held at Aurora Hills, Courthouse, and Central Library branches, tech support sessions is provided by knowledgeable community volunteers for:

  • Email and internet basics
  • Libby/OverDrive ebooks and audiobooks
  • Office productivity and videoconference tools
  • Basic computer, phone, and tablet troubleshooting

Cost

No fee, but registration is required for these in-person events. Events are held at Aurora Hills on Mondays from 6:00–7:00 p.m. and at Courthouse on Tuesdays from 6:00–7:00 p.m.

Encore Learning Arlington

Description

Founded in 2002, Encore Learning Arlington is a volunteer-run organization offering college-level classes taught by pro-bono instructors to people aged 50+. The Academic Programs committee creates a schedule of 30–40 courses. Special Events brings public lectures, panels, and film screenings with Encore Learning Presents held on Mondays at 3:00 p.m. There are many ways to volunteer and become engaged to expand your world.

Cost

Annual membership dues are $65 per person, giving full access to all special events and clubs, and the right to enroll in courses (at an additional cost of $55 per course). Please note: Annual dues are nonrefundable and nontransferable.

Tech Help by Appointment

Description

Library staff will contact you within 36 business hours to assist you or to set up an appointment to meet with you. Support includes basic computer tasks, help with smartphones, personal devices, creating email accounts, getting started with social media. Library staff cannot provide assistance with computer viruses, performance issues, hardware maintenance, filling out online forms.

Cost

No fee, but online registration (and an appointment) is required. Available in Spanish.
